Description

Brookhouse Farm House is a farmhouse dating to the late 17th century, but with an appearance typical of the early 19th century. It is constructed of whitewashed brick with an old slate roof laid with diminishing courses. The building is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. A two-storey, two-bay rear wing extends to the north-west, creating an L-shaped plan. A prominent two-course brick band runs along the first floor. The main entrance features a four-panel bolection-moulded door within a framed surround with external architraves and a mullioned overlight, sheltered by a flat-roofed lattice porch. Most windows are 3-light flush casements with stone sills and stepped brick lintels. A boarded back door, affixed with strap hinges, is located on the south-west side. Early metal casements are found at first-floor and attic level in the north-east gable end and rear wing. The property has gable end stacks. Internally, the house retains features such as bevelled beams, exposed ceiling joists, an inglenook beam, and timber framing within the internal walls. The first floor also has exposed beams. Wide, boarded doors are fitted with HL or old tee hinges.
