Description
Valley Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse that is now a detached house. It is built of dressed limestone and features a thatched roof with coped verges and brick stacks. The layout includes a baffle entry opposite boxed-in stairs. The building is two stories high with two windows on the front. There is a central six-panelled door set in a 19th-century gabled porch, with a two-light wooden casement window to the left and a three-light leaded casement window with a quadrant stay to the right. On the first floor, there are two three-light leaded casement windows.
To the right of the main house is a former stable, which is now part of the house, featuring a three-light wooden casement window and a 20th-century dormer. To the left, there is a kitchen extension, and the former dairy has a three-light wooden casement window; both extensions have tiled roofs. At the rear, there are French windows to the left, a two-light leaded casement window, and a 20th-century four-light leaded casement window to the right. There is also a moulded four-panelled door in a chamfered surround and a two-light casement window in the kitchen area. The first floor has two two-light leaded casement windows and one two-light wooden casement window.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a good interior with a central staircase that is boxed in with moulded plank and muntin. The landing features 17th-century turned balusters and square newels with moulded finials. The room to the left of the entrance has an open fireplace with a chamfered cambered lintel set on chamfered stone jambs. The parlour includes a stone fireplace surround with a chamfered lintel, and a cupboard to the right has shaped shelves and an arched head with a key and imposts on reeded pilasters. There is also a plank and muntin partition leading to the attic stairs, and the original roof has three bays. The farmhouse features good planked doors with moulded rails.
