Description
Hill Cottage is a detached cottage that dates from the late 17th century, with a small addition likely from the 18th century. It is built of dressed limestone and features a thatched roof with a half-hip on the left side and a brick stack on the right. The 18th-century bay is made of Flemish bond brick and has a fishscale tiled roof. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and has two windows. The entrance consists of a planked door set in a chamfered stone surround, accompanied by a 19th-century tiled canopy to the left of the center. To the left of the door is a 2-light leaded casement window, and to the right is a 3-light casement window. The attic features two eyebrow dormers, which contain a 2-light and a 3-light casement. The 18th-century addition on the right, now serving as the kitchen, has 2-light casements and a planked door. The rear of the cottage has a 2-light and a single-light casement on the ground floor.
Inside, the cottage has chamfered beams with run-out stops. The south end contains an unheated parlour with renewed stairs in the original corner position, along with a cupboard featuring shaped shelves below the stairs and planked doors. The north room includes an open fireplace with a cambered chamfered lintel and ogee stops on stone jambs.
