Description
Clouds Cottage is a detached cottage that was originally a bakehouse, game larders, and stores for Clouds House, built in the 1880s for Percy Wyndham by Philip Webb. It was altered in the 1930s. The building is constructed of English bond brick with a tiled roof and brick stacks, while the former game larder features dressed limestone. The main entrance is located at the rear, and the cottage is single storey with an attic.
It has two pairs of French windows, a planked door, and steel casements, with the doors positioned at different ground levels due to the slope of the site. The right side of the building features a gable end with a segmental-headed 12-pane sash window and a pair of gabled dormers, showcasing Webb's characteristic jettied gables. The rear, which faces a lane, includes two 12-pane sash windows and three-light leaded or steel casements, along with triple gabled dormers that share similar features, and a gabled louvre to the right that was part of the former larder.
To the right, there is a square stone structure that served as the former larder, which has a 2-light mullioned casement and a pyramidal tiled roof topped with a weathervane. Clouds Cottage is part of a larger group of service buildings, much of which was demolished in the 1930s, including the kitchen.
