Description

Clouds Lodge is a detached cottage dating from the early 18th century, with a late 19th-century extension, likely designed by Webb. The walls are English bond brick with vitrified headers, featuring stone gable ends. The roof is thatched with coped verges and stone gable end stacks. The building follows an L-shaped plan and is single-storey with an attic, presenting three windows to the front. A central half-glazed door is sheltered by a gabled canopy, flanked by three-light leaded casement windows. A long eyebrow dormer window sits above, featuring a two-light leaded casement at its center, with further three-light windows on either side. A lean-to extension on the right return houses a four-panelled door. The rear elevation incorporates leaded casement windows and eyebrow dormers. A rear wing, added in the 1880s, includes a gabled stone porch with a coped verge, a half-glazed door, and a two-light steel casement window alongside a single leaded light. The ground floor of this wing is English bond brick with a moulded brick string course, while the first floor is dressed limestone. Two gabled dormers with steel casements are also present. The cottage was constructed on the Clouds Estate, after the main Clouds House, and incorporates details similar to those found on Webb's service buildings.
