Description
The annexe and flat to Clouds House, built in the 1880s for Percy Wyndham by Philip Webb, originally served as the services and servants hall for Clouds House. The structure features English bond brick on the first floor and dressed limestone on the ground floor, topped with a tiled roof and brick stacks. It is two stories tall with irregular window arrangements. The north side has a 20th-century glazed door, leaded casements, and small sash windows on the first floor, while the ground floor is windowless and partly at basement level. A moulded stone plat band with tiled capping separates the two floors. At the west end, there is an attached square stone bay with a pyramidal roof and a cast-iron weathervane that includes the date 1883.
On the south side, a two-story wing features 15-pane sashes on the ground floor, which was the former servants' hall, and casements on the first floor, which served as a former workroom. This building is part of an extensive former service wing on the east side of Clouds House, connected by long stretches of covered passages and staircases. The main range, which runs at right angles to the servants' hall, once housed the housekeeper's, maids', and valet's rooms on the principal floor, with storerooms below. The kitchen, which has since been demolished, was attached to the east side of the servants' hall.
