The Academy

This is a farmhouse, later adapted as a detached house. It largely dates to the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is constructed of dressed limestone, and the roof is thatched, with a half-hip to the left side and a coped verge to the right, featuring stone and brick stacks. The front, which faces the road, has a gable and originally featured four windows. A 20th-century porch sits to the left, housing a 20th-century door. To the right of a large, lateral stone stack with offsets are a two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement and a single recessed chamfered casement. The first floor has two two-light casements set within eyebrow dormers to the right and two more two-light casements to the left. A two-storey addition, possibly dating to the 18th century and originally a bakehouse, is attached to the left. A 20th-century garage and kitchen project to the left. The rear of the building features a four-panelled door set within a chamfered stone casing, flanked on the left by a three-light mullioned casement, and to the right a 16-pane sash window, a 20th-century stable door, a glazed door, and two-light casements. The first floor has two eyebrow dormers with two-light leaded casements to the left and four two-light casements and a three-light casement within what was formerly a loft door to the right. The interior retains roughly chamfered beams, planked doors, and three open fireplaces with chamfered lintels resting on chamfered stone jambs. There is also some plank and muntin partitioning.
