Description

The Manor House is a farmhouse, later adapted as a house, dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, with a late 18th or early 19th century addition and 20th century alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with some ironstone, and stone dressings, and has a stone slate roof. The building is arranged as a T-plan, with three storeys to the main block and a two-storey wing projecting to the front. A stone ridge stack is located to the right, featuring chamfered weathering, and an external stone end stack to the left, with chamfered offsets and a 20th century brick top stage. There are three gabled dormers, each with a two-light, small-paned wooden casement. The front has three windows, with 19th and 20th century small-paned casements, some with stone cills. A later gabled wing projects at right angles, off-centre to the left, with an integral lateral stone stack to the right and a pitched-roofed link to the attic. This wing contains a two-light casement to each floor, with a flat stone arch and stone cill, alongside a one-light attic casement. A six-panelled door, situated in the left-hand angle of the wing, leads to the main range, and is sheltered by a 20th century lean-to stone porch. A former main entrance was located on the first floor, off-centre to the right, accessed by a flight of wooden steps up the side of the wing, as evidenced by an old photograph kept within the house. A 20th century replacement casement is present on the right-hand ground floor. The right-hand gable end has a two-light casement to the first and second floors. A former outbuilding is adjoining to the left, with eaves raised and fenestrated in the 20th century. Internally, the principal rooms are located on the first floor. A left-hand first-floor room contains a 17th century moulded stone fireplace with bar stops, and a moulded plaster cornice. The left-hand second-floor room also features a 17th century moulded stone fireplace with bar stops, together with a pair of deep-chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops.
