Description

Rose Cottage is a mid-17th century house, originally a single dwelling and later divided into two. It’s constructed from coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. The building follows a two-unit baffle-entry plan. It is two storeys high, with a central stone ridge stack, featuring weatherings at the base and a later brick top stage. The front façade has two windows, each with a three-light metal casement and a wooden lintel. A central half-glazed door is present, with a shadow line indicating the former presence of a gabled porch. A 20th-century gabled stone porch has been added to the left, containing a half-glazed door. Two-storey additions flank the original structure, the left addition featuring a catslide roof over an outshut to the front. The interior was not inspected, but is said to contain a large open fireplace and chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops.
