FAWLER SP31NE 6/24 Railway bridge at SP 3719 1682

Railway bridge. Circa 1853, engineer I.K. Brunel. Snecked rock-faced red sandstone ashlar with some rock-faced ironstone ashlar; brick intrados to each arch. Rock-faced ironstone ashlar retaining walls. Some late C20 blue brick patching. Wide elliptical arch with stepped voussoirs; flanking round pedestrian archways with rock-faced voussoirs and keystones. Tooled flat string course and parapet with coping. The Wolvercot Junction-Evesham stretch of the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway was opened in June 1853, and doubled in August 1854.
