Description
The railings, gates, and walls date from around 1820 and are contemporary with the two houses they serve. The cast-iron railings feature fleur-de-lis heads and additional intermediate rails below the mid-rail, with urn finials on the main posts. These are mounted on a rusticated stone plinth wall in front of the houses. The small foot gates are similarly designed, with decorative quatrefoil bracing below the mid-rail. On either side, brick garden walls curve inward to the gate piers that flank the central entrance. These elements are important parts of the original design and layout of the houses and are notable examples of decorative ironwork that contribute significantly to the townscape of Salop Road.
