Description
Collen Buildings, located at 33-35 Salop Road in Welshpool, were constructed around 1860, following the 1854 Public Health Act. This terrace consists of three houses made of brick with stone angle quoins and a slate roof, featuring two brick axial stacks and a gable end stack on the right. The buildings rise three storeys and have a three-window range, with each house having a doorway on the left side. The entrances are fitted with four-panelled doors, each topped with a shallow segmental overlight in an ornate moulded case that has a depressed arched head with a fluted keystone. The windows include four-pane sashes on the ground and first floors, and 12-pane sashes in the attic storey, all adorned with flat arched rendered heads.
The front gardens are enclosed by cast-iron railings and gates, which feature cusped arrow head rails arranged in two tiers, set on a stone plinth wall. Collen Buildings are a well-detailed and representative example of an urban terrace that retains much of its original character and contributes to the overall group value of the area.
