Description
The Grapes Public House, along with Sussex House and Heath Bank, is located on Salop Road in Welshpool. This building, constructed from brick (painted on Nos 2 and 3) with rubble in the gable ends, features concrete tiled roofs that have replaced the original slate. It has prominently projecting eaves and diagonally set axial stacks. The Grapes Public House is two storeys tall and has a double-fronted design with a central entrance. Sussex House and Heath Bank are single fronted, with entrances on either side of a central passage entry, creating a symmetrical appearance.
The Grapes Public House features a central six-panelled door with an overlight set in a moulded architrave, flanked by 16-pane sash windows with splayed brick heads. The upper windows have been renewed in their original openings. Sussex House and Heath Bank have similar doorcases on either side of the round-arched passage entry, although the doorways themselves have been renewed. These houses also have 12-pane sash windows, with Sussex House's windows replaced with UPVC glazing, all featuring splayed heads.
