Description
Sussex House, along with The Grapes Public House and Heath Bank, is located on Salop Road in Welshpool. The buildings are constructed of brick, which is painted on Nos 2 and 3, with rubble in the gable ends. The roofs are covered with concrete tiles, replacing the original slate, and feature strongly projecting eaves and diagonally set axial stacks.
The Grapes Public House is a two-storey, double-fronted structure with a central entrance. It has a central six-panelled door with an overlight set in a moulded architrave, flanked by 16-pane sash windows that have splayed brick heads. The upper windows have been renewed in their original openings.
Sussex House and Heath Bank are single-fronted, with entrances on either side of a central passage entry, creating a symmetrical appearance. They have similar doorcases to The Grapes, although the doorways themselves have been renewed. These buildings feature 12-pane sash windows, with Sussex House having renewed UPVC glazing, and all windows have splayed heads.
