Description

3 Waterloo Place is part of a group of buildings known as 1, 2, and 3 Waterloo Terrace and 1-4 Waterloo Place, located on Salop Road in Welshpool. The buildings are constructed from local ashlar stone and feature a slate roof with brick axial stacks. They are two storeys high and consist of an 8-window range, with two houses on either side of a central passageway. The layout is symmetrical, with two-unit houses at each end, one of which includes a shop, and single-unit houses in the center, where the doorways are positioned on either side of the round-arched passage entry.

All doorways feature 6-panelled doors with overlights, framed by moulded architraves and cornice hoods. The windows are 16-pane sash types with painted sills, and there are blind windows above the doors of the outer houses. The shop in the right-hand unit has a mid-19th century two-light shop window with small panes and a moulded architrave.

The return elevation facing Salop Road is also two storeys high and consists of a 9-window range that includes three houses and a shop front, which is the continuation of the shop from Waterloo Place. This elevation is made of brick and has full-height pilasters flanking the doorways. It features a hipped slate roof with end wall stacks and oversailing eaves. The shop to the left of the terrace has a doorway flanked by late 19th-century shop windows on the ground floor, with 16-pane sash windows above that have painted gauged brick heads. Each of the houses, numbered 1-3, has a central entrance flanked by 2-pane sash windows on each floor. Number 3 retains its original 6-panelled door, and all entrances are adorned with panelled architraves.
