Description

This is a very rare example of a cast-iron pillar box from 1936, featuring the Edward VIII royal insignia. The box has a circular red-painted stem topped with a domed cap and a fluted rim. It includes a weather projection over a curved door, with raised surrounds around the letter opening and collection plate. The crowned monogram is displayed with thick interlaced letters above the POST OFFICE lettering. The base is moulded and painted black. The crowned monogram is of exceptional historic importance, as King Edward VIII abdicated before his coronation.
