Description
Craigie is a cottage located at 19 West Road in Elgin, built between 1900 and 1910, likely by architect James Newlands. This unusual single-storey and attic cottage features a raised basement on the north side. The exterior is constructed from random rubble made up of large boulders, with heavy bullfaced dressings. The front elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central door framed by heavy piers and a trabeated doorpiece. It has large projecting bowed bays at the corners, adorned with ornately carved capitals on the window mullions, door jambs, and door lintel. The cottage is topped with a piended slate roof that includes a central circular cupola and two later added swept dormers. At the rear, there is a rustic loggia, and the property is enclosed by heavy rusticated garden walls.
