Description

A and W Reid, 1866; extensive alterations and additions

to early 19th century house. Large house of raised

basement, 2 storeys and attic, 3 bays to S (front)

elevation. Ashlar with ornate polished ashlar dressings;

coursed rubble to raised basement. Advanced centre bay

with further advanced porch; flanking canted bay

windows, with rectangular bay windows to E and W

elevations. String course linking 1st floor window cills;

enriched segmental-headed pediments to 1st floor

windows; pierced stone balustrades carrying ornate urns to

all bays windows and to centre bay. 2 segmental-headed

dormers, E and W. 2 modern dormers to front; 2 batteries of

octagonal chimney stacks, symmetrically arranged with 7

to each group. Piended slate roof.

Extensive modern additions to rear of no interest.

Rubble garden walls with dressed stone copes.

Alexander Reid 1866-67; single span elliptical arched foot

bridge with pierced cast-stone balustrade; panelled end

piers with stone finials.
