Description
Sheriffston is an early 19th century house with significant mid-19th century additions and remodelling, likely by architects A and W Reid. It is a two-storey, gabled, east-facing double pile house. The exterior is harled with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. A projecting off-centre front gable features a square single-storey porch located in the re-entrant angle, with a side entrance flanked by an angle pilaster that terminates in a shaped finial on an octagonal base. The front has a shaped projecting ground floor bay window, and there is a further rectangular projecting window on the south elevation. The large ground floor windows have transoms and mullions, while some first floor windows break the wallhead under gabletted dormers and feature multi-pane glazing. The house has an early 19th century end and ridge margined and coped stack, along with additional tall shaped and corniced flues. The roofs are covered with slate. There are various later additions at the rear.
