Ashburn Gate Residential Home, Gourock

Ashburn Gate Residential Home is a mid-19th century villa with later additions from the 19th century. It is a two-storey building with a basement and a later attic, featuring a rectangular plan and three bays. The exterior is finished with painted render over stugged ashlar, accented by polished dressings. It has a tall ashlar base course, architraved windows, an eaves band, and a cornice.

The northwest (front) elevation has a pilastered doorway at the center, accessed by steps with a bull-faced rubble balustrade and later railings. It features a Roman Doric porch with an entablature and a balustraded parapet, along with a window on the first floor. The outer bays have three-storey canted bays, which are later additions, topped with piend roofs and segmental-arched windows at the basement level. There is also a modern box dormer.

The northeast elevation has three bays with regular fenestration and a fire escape stair. To the left, there is a six-bay late 19th century service wing with a segmental-arched pend and regular fenestration. This elevation also features a modern box dormer.

The southwest elevation mirrors the northeast with a large single-storey modern addition and a modern box dormer. The windows are primarily timber sash and case, mostly with plate glass glazing, while some in the rear block have 12 panes. The roof is piended slate with lead flashings, and there is a moulded eaves gutter.

The interior was not seen in 1993.
