Northcote, 4 Victoria Circus, Dowanhill, Glasgow

Northcote is a mid-19th century villa located at 4 Victoria Circus in Dowanhill, Glasgow. The building features classical detailing but has modern brick single-storey additions that enclose the entrance porch on the south elevation, along with a brick and concrete hall to the south. It has two storeys, attics, and a basement, constructed of stugged ashlar with smooth rusticated quoins.

The south elevation has three bays, with a recessed entrance bay to the right leading to a single-storey porch topped with a solid ashlar parapet. All ground floor windows are framed with architraves and have consoled cornices, while the first-floor windows are round-headed with pilastered reveals, some being bipartite with pilaster mullions. The glazing is plate glass.

The east elevation features a full-height canted window to the right with engaged column mullions and a corniced single window to the left, along with a tripartite window on the first floor. The north elevation is three bays wide, containing both single and bipartite windows. The west elevation includes a tall round-arched stair light and a projecting single-storey service wing.

There is a band course at the first-floor cills and eaves, with ashlar bracketed eaves adorned with antefixae. The roof features timber tunnel dormers, a corniced wallhead, axial stacks, and is covered with slate.

The interior has been significantly altered but retains good cast-iron stair balusters. There is an ashlar wall and gateway leading to the kitchen court, along with a low coped ashlar boundary wall that includes a pair of tall square ashlar gatepiers.
