11 Kensington Gate, Glasgow

23 Kensington Gate in Glasgow is a terrace of 14 houses designed by architect David Barclay of H & D Barclay, built around 1902-1903. The houses are similar in style and detail, with slight variations in window arrangements due to the curve of the terrace. Most elevations have two bays.

Each house features a five-light bow window that rises from the basement to a three-light bow dormer topped with a conical slate roof. Steps lead down to a double-leaf panelled door with an oculus fanlight above and glazed sidelights. At houses 11, 12, and 19-24, the doors are framed by a tripartite doorpiece with polished granite colonnettes and dwarf pilasters, supporting a heavy cornice that arches over the oculus, complete with a bold keystone. For houses 13-18, the doors are flanked by polished granite colonnettes with foliate corbel-caps that support a moulded archivolt. Above the doors, there is a bipartite window, with additional single-light windows at houses 11, 12, and 19-24. The windows are sash with plate glass, and many upper sashes include fanlights and sidelights with art nouveau leaded glass.

The design includes a band course at the eaves, with timber brackets supporting widely overhanging eaves. The dormers are alternately bipartite or bow-shaped. The roofs feature red tile cresting and skews at the party walls, along with decorative skew putts. The houses have corniced axial stacks, steeply pitched slate roofs, and a platform.

The western flank of house 24 has a three-bay facade made of finely stugged ashlar with polished dressings. To the left, a two-storey five-light bow window rises to a conical slate roof, while the centre bay is advanced with a square three-light window and a small gablet dormer. There is a solid ashlar parapet at the steps and a low ashlar wall at the basement.

Notably, house 11 features an elaborate coloured leaded glass panel on its vestibule door.
