Description

This mid-19th century villa was remodeled and extended in the baronial style by architect A N Paterson in 1899. The building features an asymmetrical three-storey elevation facing west, highlighted by a boldly projecting canted bay and a tall bowed bay, along with an additional two-storey entrance porch on the left.

The exterior is constructed of coursed stugged ashlar with polished dressings and margins, all of which has been stone cleaned. The ground and first-floor windows are transomed, while the bay windows are mullioned. The sash windows have lower sashes made of plate glass and upper sashes with four-pane glazing.

On the main elevation to the left, there is a gabled bay with a canted two-storey window topped by an embattled parapet, featuring a three-light window in the gable head. The original narrow entrance bay was converted in 1899 into a bipartite architraved consoled corniced window, which has since been re-converted into a doorway with a fanlight. To the left, a three-storey bow window has three windows on the ground and first floors and five on the second floor, the latter adorned with roll-moulded architraves and a hemi-domical roof, topped by a crow-stepped gable.

There is a two-storey bay to the left with steps leading to a lugged roll-moulded depressed arch doorpiece, featuring a bold keystone and flanked by Tuscan columns that support a pediment. Above this, a single-light window is flanked by a strip of polished ashlar, and a cornice with a pierced parapet completes the design. Further left, there is another two-storey wing that is part of the original villa.

The rear elevation is irregular, showcasing an elongated five-light bow window to the left and a three-storey turret with a conical roof to the right. Most of the other windows are tripartite, treated similarly to those on the main facade. Additionally, there is a single-storey and attic servants' wing to the northeast.
