Description

The Spinnaker Hotel, located at 121 Albert Road in Gourock, is a cottage-style villa dating from the later 19th century. It is a two-storey building with three bays and has had later additions to the rear, transforming it into a hotel. The front is constructed of pink sandstone with an ashlar finish, although some areas have been repaired with plastic. The sides and rear feature squared and snecked stugged rubble. Architectural details include a base course, a moulded cill course at the first floor, overhanging eaves with decoratively carved exposed rafters, chamfered reveals to the bays, corniced ground floor windows, and first floor windows that break the eaves.

On the north (front) elevation, there is a pilastered doorway at the center, supported by console corbels that hold up a balcony with a pierced quatrefoil balustrade. The entrance features a two-leaf panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above it. To the right bay, there is a two-storey canted window topped with a finialled polygonal roof. The left bay has bipartite windows in a shallow projection, also with a finialled piended roof.

The east elevation is gabled with plain bargeboards and has narrow windows in the center. The south (rear) elevation includes a single-storey lean-to addition, with first floor windows in the outer bays that break the eaves in piended dormers.

The building has timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, a slate roof, and a gablehead stack on the east side. Moulded eaves gutters are also present. The front features a low rendered wall with later railings. The interior was not seen in 1993.
