17, 18 Ashton Road, Gourock

17 and 18 Ashton Road in Gourock is a flatted villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century. This two-storey building with an attic features three bays and classical architectural details. The front is made of pink sandstone with rendered ashlar, while the sides are constructed of droved ashlar, and the rear is harled. Notable features include a base course, broad angle pilasters, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The ground floor windows have raised margins, recessed aprons, and block pediments, while the first-floor windows are adorned with lugged architraves.

On the northwest (front) elevation, there is a central doorway framed by a fluted Doric doorpiece, which includes a triglyph and roundel frieze, as well as a dentilled cornice. The panelled door has a plate glass fanlight above it. Each outer bay features a single window on both floors, and there are two canted dormers.

The southeast (rear) elevation has modern access to first-floor doorways and single windows in the flanking bays, along with two gabled dormers. The northeast elevation is gabled with a single window in the centre. The southwest elevation is similar to the northeast but has had the apex stack removed. Throughout the building, there are replacement windows, including four-pane timber sash and case windows in the rear dormers. The roof is slate, with a gablehead stack on the northeast side.

The interior was not seen in 1993. Additionally, there is a low coped stone boundary wall and gatepiers at the front of the property.
