Description
Moorlea is a villa located at 19, 20 Moorfield Road in Gourock, dating from the later to late 19th century. It is a single storey and attic structure with three bays, featuring a part-modern outhouse at the rear. The building is constructed from pink sandstone, with squared and snecked rubble and polished dressings. Notable architectural details include a base course, quoin strips, chamfered reveals, and moulded lintels on the windows. The eaves are overhanging, with exposed rafters and scalloped, bolt-detailed bargeboards.
The north (front) elevation has a pilastered and corniced doorway at the center, which contains a two-leaf panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. To the right, there is a bay with a two-storey canted window that breaks the eaves and is supported by a corbel in the gablehead. The bay to the left features bipartite windows in a shallow rectangular projection that also breaks the eaves in the gablehead. A small semi-circular dormer is located at the center.
The east elevation is gabled, with irregularly spaced windows and a secondary doorway, along with a single storey extension on the outer left. The west elevation is also gabled, featuring windows at the center. The south (rear) elevation includes a long single storey outhouse that projects at right angles from the center, with windows flanking it. There is a gabled dormer off-center to the left and a wallhead stack off-center to the right. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing. The roof is slate, with two gablehead stacks on the east and west sides and one wallhead stack. The eaves feature a moulded gutter.
The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls, which include two coped gatepiers and trefoiled iron railings.
