Description

45 Victoria Road in Gourock is a single-storey and attic cottage built in the later 19th century, situated on steep terraced ground. The cottage features Tudor details and includes a small outhouse to the south. The front is made of red sandstone with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, while the rear and sides are constructed from squared and snecked stugged ashlar. It has a base course, stop-chamfered reveals, an eaves band course, and hoodmoulded windows with ashlar mullions, along with plain bargeboards.

The northeast (front) elevation has a roll-moulded doorway at the center, accessed by steps and flanked by decorative cast-iron railings. Above the doorway is an angled cornice over a shallow bracketed panel featuring small nailhead carvings. The entrance consists of a two-leaf door and a plate glass fanlight. To the right, there is a bipartite window, and to the left, a tripartite window. The roof features three gabled, slate-hung timber dormers, two of which are bipartite.

The southwest (rear) elevation has a secondary doorway and two bipartite gabled timber dormers. The northwest elevation is gabled, while the southeast elevation is also gabled and has two windows. There is a small, rubble-built outhouse set into the hillside, which has a half-piend roof to the southwest.

The cottage has timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, a slate roof, and two gablehead stacks on the northwest and southeast sides. The eaves feature a moulded gutter.

The interior was not seen in 1993. Surrounding the property are tall rubble terracing and boundary walls with flat and semi-circular coping, along with decorative cast-iron railings on the northeast side.
