Description
86 and 88 Albert Road in Gourock is a mid to late 19th century, reworked and extended villa originally built slightly earlier. This two-storey, four-bay L-plan flatted villa features gothic details. The front is finished in rendered ashlar, while the rear and side are harled. It has a base course, a band eaves course, chamfered reveals around the windows, coped skews, corbelled skewputts with roll-detail, and a quoin strip at the northeast corner.
On the northwest (front) elevation, there is a doorway to the left of centre, leading to a four-centre-arched porch supported by octagonal columns and topped with a crenellated parapet, along with a panelled door and a window above. To the right of centre is an advanced gabled bay featuring kneelers and an ashlar finial, with a two-storey canted window and a blank armorial shield above it. The outer right has a narrower gabled bay with an apex stack and a slightly advanced window at ground floor, while the first floor has a hoodmoulded window with a moulded apron. The outer left bay has regular fenestration.
The northeast elevation has a gabled appearance with windows at the centre and a lower two-storey wing to the outer left that includes a secondary doorway with a bracketed cornice.
The southeast (rear) elevation features a lower two-storey rear wing. It has timber sash and case windows, with four panes at the first floor and modern replacement windows at the ground floor. The original roof is grey slate, while the outer right bay has a purple slate roof with metal flashings, and there is an apex stack.
The interior was not seen in 1993. The front is bordered by a low rubble wall with semi-circular coping, alongside a taller boundary wall.
