Description
This building, located at 2 and 4 Broomberry Drive in Gourock, dates from around 1880 and is a two-storey, three-bay subdivided villa featuring Italianate details. It has a large brick extension and a small outhouse at the rear. The front is made of pink sandstone ashlar, while the sides are constructed from coursed rubble and the rear extension is brick. Notable architectural features include a rubble base course, basket-arched openings, corniced ground floor openings, chamfered reveals, bracketed cills, and overhanging eaves with brackets and a dentilled cornice, along with ashlar mullions.
On the northeast (front) elevation, there is an advanced central bay with a round-arched roll-moulded doorway flanked by nook-shafts with floreate capitals, leading to a panelled door and a semi-circular plate glass fanlight. To the right, there is a tall, narrow, round-arched window, with another window above it. The left bay features a two-storey quadripartite bowed window with a dividing cornice and a conical roof. The right bay has bipartite windows with bracketed cills and a corbelled cornice at the ground floor.
The southwest (rear) elevation showcases the large two-storey brick extension. The northwest elevation contains two windows at the centre. The single-storey outhouse has a piended roof with exposed rafters. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, although some have been replaced. The building has a piended and platformed slate roof with metal flashings and a moulded eaves gutter adorned with embossed anthemion motifs.
The boundary wall features a low rubble construction with saddleback coping, and the gatepiers have chamfered arrises and pyramidal coping.
