Description

6 Barrhill Road in Gourock is a double villa built around 1900, featuring two stories and an attic, with four bays and rear service wings. The building is constructed from pink sandstone with an ashlar front, while the rear and sides are made of squared and snecked stugged rubble. It has a base course, chamfered reveals, and a string course above the ground floor on the main elevations. The eaves overhang with plain bargeboards and exposed rafters.

The northwest (front) elevation is symmetrical, with round-arched doorways that have rounded reveals and linked corbelled open swan-neck pediments above the central bays. These doorways feature panelled doors and plate glass fanlights, with windows located above them. A later rectangular dormer is also present. The outer bays have two-storey canted windows that are swept to square in the gableheads, adorned with diamond panels.

The northeast (Binnie Street) elevation has a gabled roof with kingposts on the bargeboards. It features a canted bipartite window at the ground floor, with additional windows above, including a round-arched window at the gablehead.

The southwest elevation is also gabled with kingposts on the bargeboards and has windows in the center.

The southeast (rear) elevation includes lower two-storey single bay service wings for each house, topped with long mono-pitched roofs. The windows are timber sash and case, mostly with plate glass glazing, although some modern replacement windows are present. The roof is slate, and there is a gablehead stack on the southwest side.

The property is enclosed by a low stepped rubble boundary wall with saddleback coping, which is raised to Binnie Street and features semicircular coping.
