Description

25 and 27 Kempock Place in Gourock is an early 20th-century, three-storey, three-bay commercial building designed in the Free Renaissance style. The front is made of red sandstone ashlar, while the rear and sides are constructed from red brick with some sandstone dressings. Notable features include bracketed band cill courses on the first and second floors, an eaves cornice topped with a tall ashlar parapet, and ornamental carved end dies. The ground floor has angle pilasters with decorative carvings on the capitals, and the windows are mullioned and transomed with boldly rounded edges.

On the east elevation, there is a modern restaurant front at the ground floor. The central bay above is slightly advanced and features shallow angle pilasters and bipartite windows. The dormer head breaks the parapet and includes a squat bipartite window with a semicircular cornice and a lugged pediment that holds a monogrammed and carved cartouche. The outer bays have quadripartite windows.

The north elevation has windows on the right side, and the parapet is finished with an ashlar wallhead stack. The west (rear) elevation features a quadripartite stair window in the center and bipartite windows in the outer bays. Modern replacement windows have been installed throughout. The roof is piended and covered with interlocking concrete tiles, complete with iron finials at the front and a wallhead stack on the west side. The interior was not seen in 1993.
