Description
42 Broomberry Drive in Gourock is a pair of identical semi-detached cottages built in 1894. These single-storey and attic homes have two bays and service wings at the rear. The front is made of pink sandstone with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, while the rear and sides are constructed from coursed and squared stugged rubble. The cottages feature rubble base courses, chamfered reveals, round-arched doorways with rounded reveals, an eaves cornice, plain bargeboards, and decorative iron finials on the piended dormers.
The front elevation has mirrored designs with doorways in the centre bays, panelled doors, and plate glass fanlights. Above the doors is a date stone and a rectangular dormer. The outer bays have canted windows with a blocking course, and there are canted dormers above them.
The rear elevation has narrower service wings with secondary doorways, piended roofs, and dormers on each side, along with a wallhead stack at the back. There are some retained timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, but most are modern replacements. The roof is slate with metal flashings and features gablehead and wallhead stacks with octagonal cans.
The property is enclosed by a low rubble wall topped with saddleback coping, and there are four pairs of cast-iron gateposts with fleur-de-lys railings. The interior was not seen in 1993.
