1 Venlaw Road, Peebles

1 Venlaw Road in Peebles is a pair of semi-detached cottages, likely built in the later 19th century. They are single storey with an attic and feature three bays in an asymmetrical layout, showcasing distinctive vermiculated details. The front is made of cream sandstone, with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, while the rear and sides are constructed from whinstone rubble. Notable architectural features include a base course, stop-chamfered reveals, vermiculated quoins, and an eaves band. The cottages have finialled canted dormers with stop-chamfered reveals and chevron cornices.

On the front elevation, each cottage has a central doorway with a plate glass fanlight (the door to No 2 is panelled), flanked by narrow windows (No 1 has a window to the right, and No 2 to the left). The outer bays contain bipartite windows, and there are two dormers visible. The rear elevation has irregular openings and some small additions. Both the north and south elevations feature gabled ends with apex stacks.

The cottages have plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and corniced apex stacks with octagonal cans. The skews are lugged ashlar with vermiculated pendants. The interior was not seen in 1994.
