Description

26 Royal Street in Gourock is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house featuring a chamfered corner on the northeast side. The front facade is constructed of variegated sandstone with coursed and squared stugged rubble, accented by polished and droved dressings, while the rear and sides are made of coursed rubble. The building includes quoin strips, raised margins, and an eaves band.

On the southwest (front) elevation, the windows are regularly spaced. The central entrance has a pedimented doorway supported by plain corbels, featuring a two-leaf door and a plate glass fanlight, with a narrow later window to the left. The north (John Street) elevation is mostly blank, except for a chamfered bay on the outer right that mirrors the detailing of the front, containing two windows. The southeast elevation has a gabled roof and a window on the outer right, which is blocked at the first floor. The northeast (rear) elevation includes a workshop extension and two windows.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a slate roof with metal flashings, topped by a gablehead stack on the southeast side. The interior was not seen in 1993.
