96, 97 Albert Road, Gourock

This early 19th century villa at 96 and 97 Albert Road in Gourock is a two-storey, three-bay building featuring classical details. The front is made of variegated sandstone with a painted coursed rubble finish, while the rear and west sides are rendered. It has a base course, quoin strips, and the ground floor windows are corniced and architraved, topped with an eaves cornice.

The north (front) elevation showcases a pilastered doorway at the center, complete with a cornice and blocking course that holds a tablet. The entrance features a recessed two-leaf panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. The windows are regularly spaced, and there is a large modern box dormer above.

On the west elevation, there is a gabled structure with a window on the first floor. The east elevation also has a gabled design, with a lower two-storey extension that includes a secondary doorway on the left side. The south (rear) elevation features the same lower two-storey extension and a large modern box dormer.

The property has modern replacement windows throughout and a slate roof with two gablehead stacks on the east and west sides. The skews are made of ashlar, and there are ornamental gutterheads and brackets.

The interior was not seen in 1993. The property is also accompanied by four gatepiers with pyramidal coping, one of which has been altered but retains the remains of a lamp standard, along with a low wall at the front.
