Violet Bank, 28 West Road, Irvine

Violet Bank is an earlier 19th-century villa located at 28 West Road in Irvine. This two-storey, three-bay building has a rectangular plan and features coursed sandstone on the front, with the sides and rear rendered and painted. It has ashlar margins, a base course, an eaves band, and a projecting cornice, along with pilaster quoins.

The west elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central entrance door with a cornice and deep blocking course, a panelled door, and matching windows on either side at both the ground and first floors, all with plain painted margins. The north elevation is a blank wall that continues the eaves cornice, while the south elevation mirrors this.

The east elevation consists of three bays, with a two-storey, bowed stair-tower projecting at the centre. It features a window on the first floor and an entrance door on the south face within a re-entrant angle, complete with a rectangular fanlight adorned with curvilinear geometric astragals and a flush-panelled door, along with a small window above. The left bay has windows with plain margins at both the ground and first floors, and the right bay includes a lean-to at the ground floor and a window.

The building has modern glazing and a piended roof covered in grey slate, with rendered stacks at the eaves on both the north and south sides. The interior was not seen in 1996.

Additionally, there is a rubble stone outbuilding to the east and a low rubble stone boundary wall to the west, featuring square gatepiers with pyramidal tops.
