Description
Clova Lodge is an earlier 19th century villa located at 54 Midton Road in Ayr. This two-storey, three-bay building features an asymmetrical plan and is situated on a corner site. It is constructed of coursed sandstone, with a painted base course, a first-floor cill course, an eaves course, a corniced blocking course, strip quoins, and ironwork on the first-floor balconies.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central square-headed entrance that includes a panelled balcony supported by consoles. The entrance features a timber door and a letterbox fanlight above. There is a single window directly above the entrance on the first floor, along with another panelled balcony on consoles. To the left, there is a corbelled chimney. The right bay contains single windows on both floors, while the left bay has a tripartite window at the ground floor and a single window at the first floor. Additionally, there is a single window in a recessed single-storey section to the outer left.
The south elevation consists of five bays and features a keyblocked, square-headed doorpiece in the penultimate bay on the outer right, which includes a timber door and a letterbox fanlight, with a single window aligned above on the first floor. The adjoining bays to the left have regular fenestration, while the advanced outer bays contain tripartite windows at the ground floor and single windows at the first floor.
The north and east elevations were not visible in 1999. The building has lying-pane glazing and a slate roof, adorned with decorative wallhead stacks and polygonal cans. It also features cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1999.
The property includes a wall-mounted postbox, painted square-plan gatepiers at the entrances on the west and south, topped with ball finials. A coped boundary wall encloses the site.
