Description
This building is a Picturesque villa located at 57 Midton Road in Ayr, dating from around 1850. It features a combination of single and two-storey sections with an asymmetrical plan and a single-storey section to the north. The exterior is constructed of coursed sandstone, with a base course and bargeboarded gables at the first floor.
On the southeast elevation, the entrance is marked by a balustraded area with a ball finial, positioned to the right of a central arched doorpiece. This door is made of timber and is topped with an arched fanlight and a hoodmould. Above the entrance, there is a single window aligned with it at the first floor. To the left, there is a four-light window in an advanced bay, which has a decorative iron balcony above it and an arched three-light window at the first floor with a hoodmould. To the right, there is a three-light window at the ground floor and a single window aligned above at the first floor. A recessed single-storey section is located at the outer right.
The northeast and northwest elevations were not visible in 1999. The southwest elevation has a gabled design with regular window placement.
The villa features plate glass timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with coped ridge stacks and polygonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1999. The property is also accompanied by square-plan gatepiers with inset arched panels on the outer left and right, and a boundary wall that encloses the site.
