Description
Brownhill is an early 19th-century classical villa located at 63 Midton Road in Ayr. This single-storey building has a rectangular plan and features a vermiculated base course, cill course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and strip pilasters on the outer right and left sides. The window openings are architraved with raised aprons.
The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has steps leading up to a central porch with a pediment. This porch is supported by square anta piers and features an arcaded balustrade. The entrance includes a two-leaf timber door topped by a letterbox fanlight, with single windows on either side.
The northeast elevation is asymmetrical, with a single-storey wing that projects to the right. It has a window in the center, a blind opening to the left return, and a blind window in the flanking bay to the left.
The northwest elevation shows various additions and alterations, while the southwest elevation was not visible in 1999.
The villa predominantly features lying-pane glazing, with some plate glass timber sash and case windows. It has a slate roof with pitched and wallhead corniced stacks, as well as polygonal and circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.
The interior was not seen in 1999. The property also includes square-plan gatepiers with vehicular and pedestrian gates, and a coped boundary wall that encloses the site.
