1 Carrick Avenue, Ayr

5 Carrick Avenue in Ayr is a two-storey and attic, eight-bay terrace house built in 1882. The building features coursed sandstone construction with a base course and moulded square-headed openings, along with timber eaves.

The south elevation, which is the entrance side, has a symmetrical arrangement of bays grouped as 1-1-4-1-1. It includes two central entrances with timber doors separated by a buttress. Above these entrances, there are single windows aligned at the first floor. The ground floor has three single windows flanking the entrances, while the first floor has two single windows flanking the central section. The attic features three jerkin head dormers that are not aligned. The deeply advanced canted bays on either side rise to form piended attics, with regular fenestration on the ground and first floors. The attic has bipartite windows with a decorative balcony. There are recessed bays at the outer left and right, each with two-leaf timber doors and single windows aligned above at the first floor. A later addition is present in the outer right bay.

The east elevation is gabled and has a window at the center of each floor, with additions to the right. The north elevation is symmetrical with five bays and features a lean-to structure at the center that extends through the ground and first floors, containing two windows and windows on the returns. Above this, there are two three-pane skylights in the attic. The flanking bays to the left and right have windows on the ground and first floors, along with a dormer in the attic. The outer left and right sections have piended gables with regular fenestration on each floor.

The west elevation is also gabled and has regular fenestration. The windows are a mix of plate glass and four-pane timber sash and case styles. The roof is slate with rooflights, and it features ridge, wallhead, and pitch stacks, along with circular cans. The building has cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999. Additionally, there are spear-headed railings that divide Nos 3 and 5, a coped boundary wall at the entrance elevation, and a higher boundary wall on the west elevation.
