Description
Broomfield Lodge is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay detached cottage-style villa located at 4 Broomfield Road in Ayr. It features a single-storey wing on the outer right side. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, with rubble and painted harl on the sides. It has a base course, a central dividing string course, and timber eaves that are shaped to the central gable.
The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central, shallowly advanced, shouldered doorpiece with a two-leaf timber door and a small-paned letterbox fanlight above. There is a consoled pierced balcony over the door, with a single window aligned above it on the first floor, and a shield at the gablehead. Flanking the entrance are shallow advanced gabled bays, each with tripartite windows on the ground floor and single windows on the first floor. The single-storey gabled wing on the outer right features a quadripartite window.
The northwest elevation is gabled and blank, with a harled addition adjoining to the outer left. The northeast and southeast elevations were not visible in 1999.
The villa predominantly features lying-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with small-paned windows in the single-storey section to the right. The roof is covered with slate and has corniced ridges and pitch stacks, along with polygonal cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.
The interior was not seen in 1999. The property also includes square-plan gatepiers, a single timber gate, and a coped rubble boundary wall that encloses the site.
