Description
Lagbuie is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa located on Shore Road in Shandon. The exterior features grey harl with white-painted ashlar sandstone margins and dressings, a base course, an eaves band, quoin strips, and projecting bracketed eaves.
On the southwest elevation, there are three symmetrical bays. The former window in the center has been replaced with a modern French door that has cast-iron steps leading up to it, with a window above. Flanking this are full-height canted windows, each with a dividing cornice.
The northeast (rear) elevation is asymmetrical, with three bays grouped towards the right. There is a door in the penultimate bay to the right, flanked by windows, with the right window being smaller. A tall window is located on the first floor outer right, featuring a 12-lying-pane sash and case design, while a small window is situated to the left of the left flanking window.
The southeast (entrance) elevation has an advanced block to the outer right, showcasing a full-height canted window with a dividing cornice. There is an ashlar porch in the re-entrant angle, which has a bracketed cornice and blocking course. The entrance features a four-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight and a narrow light to the left return, along with a window above the porch to the left.
The northwest elevation has a two-bay block that is advanced to the outer right, with windows symmetrically arranged on the first floor. There is a window at ground floor to the left and another at the ground left return. A recessed block to the left contains windows at both ground and first floor right, along with a narrow window at the center ground.
The villa features 4-pane sash and case windows, an 8-lying-pane sash and case window, and a plate glass sash and case window. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piend shape, with linked, stop-chamfered sandstone wallhead stacks on bases, arranged in groups of two and four, topped with octagonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1993.
A high rubble boundary wall is located to the northeast of the site, featuring ashlar saddleback coping and a wooden garden door with a wrought-iron panel to the left. There are also lean-to and gabled greenhouses at the center of the wall, which are in poor condition.
