Elmsley, 7 Racecourse Road, Ayr

Elmsley is a later 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay villa located at 7 Racecourse Road in Ayr, featuring recessed single-storey wings. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, with a rusticated ground floor. It has a vermiculated base course, a central dividing band course, a first-floor cill course, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The ground floor windows are topped with shouldered, flat arches, while the first-floor windows have aprons below the cill course.

The northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, is accessed by steps that end with low piers topped with ball finials. It features a two-leaf timber door flanked by sidelights, with a single window directly above on the first floor. There are additional single windows on both the ground and first floors. The recessed single-storey wings have a block-pedimented design, with a single window on the left and two-leaf timber doors on the right.

The southwest elevation has its ground floor obscured by the wing, with an off-centre window located to the left on the first floor. The southeast and northeast elevations were not seen in 1999.

The villa has four-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with wallhead corniced stacks and polygonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1999.

The property also features gatepiers at the pedestrian entrance to the left and a single gatepier at the vehicular entrance to the right, along with a low coped boundary wall.
