Description
Deanston is a later 19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa located at 32 Queen Street in Helensburgh, featuring a lower two-storey, single bay wing to the right. The building is constructed from cream sandstone rubble that is squared, stugged, and snecked on the south elevation, with ashlar dressings. It has a base course and ashlar mullioned windows with stop-chamfered arrises, as well as bracketed overhanging eaves.
On the south entrance elevation, there is a pilastered doorway at the center, which includes a panelled fanlit door and a half-glazed vestibule door with etched glass. Above this, there is a window on the first floor. The ground floor features a slightly advanced tripartite window with a cornice and a swept ashlar apron, while above it is a slightly advanced bipartite window. To the right, there is a full-height bow window with a cornice between the ground and first floor windows, brattishing at the eaves, a conical roof, and a finial. The lower wing to the right has a bipartite window at ground level and canted oriels above.
The west elevation includes a canted and gabled timber window at ground level in the center, with another window above on the first floor. The villa predominantly features plate glass sash and case windows. The roof is covered with piended grey slate and has conical stacks with moulded cans.
The property is also accompanied by gatepiers that are square-plan ashlar with chamfered arrises and pyramidal caps, along with timber gates.
