Description
Viewlaw is a late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay villa located at 41 Bridgend, Duns. The building features squared, snecked, and stugged cream ashlar with polished dressings, and has stop-chamfered arrises and regular fenestration.
On the south elevation, there is a base course and a moulded string course above the ground level, along with moulded eaves. The central doorpiece has a roll-moulded architrave and a framed square panel above, with a panelled door and a rectangular plate glass fanlight. The left bay contains a bipartite window at ground level, while the right bay is advanced and gabled, featuring a canted window at ground level, a bipartite window to the front, a pair of windows on the first floor, and a small window in the gablehead topped with a decorative wrought-iron finial. To the left, there is a single-storey, single-bay service block set back from the main structure.
The west elevation shows the gabled service block projecting at ground level, with three narrow windows and a wrought-iron finial. Above, the gable of the main block has a window to the left.
On the north elevation, there is a stair window at the centre, with a recent stone and slate projecting garden room at ground level to the right, and a blind window on the first floor.
The east elevation features a gable end with a narrow window at the centre on the ground level. The villa has plate glass timber sash and case windows, with 12-pane windows at the rear. The roof has crowstepped skews, corbel skwputts, grey slates, and battered coping to the ashlar apex stacks.
The property is enclosed by a coped rubble boundary wall, with a low concrete wall at the front. Square ashlar gatepiers with bases and pyramidal caps support wrought-iron gates.
