Description
22 Bridgend in Duns is a house built around 1865, featuring a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical cross-plan design. The exterior is made of stugged squared and snecked cream sandstone, with chamfered arrises. The first-floor windows extend through the eaves into gabled dormerheads, and the roof showcases exposed rafters and overhanging eaves.
On the north (front) elevation, there is a projecting gabled central bay that includes a deep-set panelled door with a two-pane rectangular fanlight above it. Scrolled strapwork brackets support a balustraded balconette above, with a window on the first floor. The roof has an octagonal apex stack. The flanking bays feature timber-mullioned bipartite windows on both floors.
The east elevation has a blank gable on the right and windows in a set-back bay on the left.
The south elevation includes a projecting gabled harled centre bay, with windows in the flanking bays.
On the west elevation, there is a gable on the left with windows to the right at ground level and to the left on the first floor, along with windows in a set-back bay to the right. The house has timber sash and case windows with ten-lying-pane glazing, a grey slate roof with bargeboards, and apex stacks, with ashlar stone on the front and brick on the sides.
The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall with saddleback ashlar coping at the front, flanked by pairs of obelisk gatepiers. There are modern wrought-iron gates and railings.
