Description

Dated 1887 with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical, rectangular-plan house with advanced, finialled canted, corbelled and gabled bays flanking gabled central bay; piended-roofed addition at rear; built on ground rising to rear (NW). Stugged cream sandstone ashlar with grey sandstone dressings. Roll-moulded string course between floors to canted bays; roll-moulded surrounds to openings at ground; chamfered reveals and long and short margins to windows at 1st floor; stop chamfered angles at 1st floor to canted bays; recessed stepped panels to gableheads; heraldic motifs above to canted gables; long and short quoins.

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: roll-moulded doorway with long and short margin at ground din bay to centre; timber panelled door with letterbox fanlight; window t 1st floor above; date panel to gablehead. 3-light canted window at ground with single window at 1st floor in bays flanking.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: single storey, 2-bay piended-roofed addition offset to left; window to main block to outer right. Continuous, long box dormer spanning entire pitch above.

SW AND NE (SIDE) ELEVATIONS: blank with multi-flue gablehead stacks above.

2-pane timber sash and case windows at ground; fixed timber-framed windows with top-hung upper lights elsewhere. Purple slate roof; stone ridge; coped skews; ovolo-moulded skewputts; corniced ashlar gablehead stack; cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.

BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEWAY AND GARDEN RAILINGS: rubble walls with rubble cope along SE boundary. Cement-rendered and lined, square-plan gatepiers with linking pediment; boarded gate. Cast-iron barleysugar railings with timber handrail on ridge cope linking gate with front door; Low wall flanking stone flight to door.
