The Miller's House, 13 John Street, Stromness

The Miller's House, located at 13 John Street in Stromness, dates back to 1716 and has undergone later alterations. This two-storey, four-bay house features an asymmetrical rectangular plan and is situated on rising ground at the end of Miller's Close. The exterior is cement-rendered and has a lined appearance with inscribed sandstone ashlar, including a repaired pediment above a roll-moulded architrave.

On the east (principal) elevation, there is a modern part-glazed boarded door at ground level in the outer right bay. Above this door, the pediment displays the initials IM/MN, the date, an armorial panel, and the inscription, "GOD'S PROVIDENCE IS MY INHERITANCE." There is also a window at the first floor. A deep-set part-glazed modern timber door is located at ground level in the central bay, with another window in the left bay and a window in the outer left bay at ground level.

The house features 2-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey asbestos tiles, and there is a stone ridge with a coped cement-rendered and lined ridge stack. The rainwater goods are predominantly uPVC. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
