Description

This building is a former warehouse located at 8 Victoria Street in Stromness, dating from around 1675 with later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey and attic structure with a near-symmetrical rectangular plan and crowstepped gables, now converted into a tourist office. To the north, there is a two-storey part corrugated-iron warehouse, and to the west, a single-storey barrel-roofed building adjoins the rear. The exterior is harled with cement window cills.

On the eastern (principal) elevation, there is a modern part-glazed two-leaf timber door with flanking lights located in the central bay at ground level. A timber forestair leads from the left to another modern part-glazed boarded door with flanking lights, which is slightly to the right on the first floor. Each of the outer bays has a deep-set modern door at ground level with a window above on the first floor. The southern (side) elevation features a two-bay gabled design, with windows on each floor in each bay and an attic window on either side of the gable, which has a gablehead stack above.

The building has 12- and 8-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey Caithness slate roof with a stone ridge, and harled, corniced gablehead stacks to the north and south. It also features uPVC rainwater goods.

Inside, the ground floor has been re-fitted as a modern tourist office, featuring a timber reception desk at the center and a stone flagged floor. The upper floors were not seen.
