Description

The East Lothian Yacht Club, located on Victoria Road in North Berwick, is a building dating from around 1802, with later alterations and a restoration completed in 2003. This former warehouse and fisherman's store is a 2- and 3-storey structure with five bays, prominently positioned at the harbour front on a steeply sloping site.

The building features a large arched entrance on the right side and a smaller arched opening on the left. There is a forestair leading to the first floor on the outer side, with three offset windows to the right. The upper part of the building has five small windows under the eaves, with later triangular rooflights above. It is constructed of rubble with large squared quoins and window dressings. A forestair added in the 1970s is located on the north gable, providing access to an adjacent building. The south gable displays an irregular pattern of fenestration due to the sloping ground. The east elevation at ground floor level features timber decking.

The windows are modern timber casements, and the entrance doors are boarded timber. The roof is made of sheet material with stone skews. The front forestair has a timber balustrade, while the stair on the north gable is enclosed by a stone wall.

Inside, as seen in 2013, the layout is simple and has been modernized to create club accommodation and facilities since the 2003 restoration. The ground floor includes changing and storage facilities, while the first floor houses a bar that retains original beams and timber support columns, with exposed stonework on the walls. The top floor contains a kitchen and a meeting room.
